Who We Are

Mrs. Lisa Dell,  School Counselor

Hello! I'm Lisa Dell. I have taught at Waiau off and on for more than 20 years. There is truly something special about this learning community and I hope to be a part of the faculty for many more years! This is my second year serving as school counselor. As counselor, I support students and families to help make sure students are set up for success in school. I meet with families, students, and student groups as needed to support a variety of needs. As a supplement to our school's social emotional learning program, Choose Love, I visit each classroom twice a quarter to teach social emotional learning lessons. Ask your child about the coping strategies we practice for handling big feelings!

In addition, I am the teacher sponsor for Hui Malamalama and Hui Aloha, our student leadership teams. We have some bright young leaders at Waiau and I enjoy seeing them use their voice to influence our school culture!

Personally, I have two adult children who once attended Waiau! My daughter lives in Denver and is a teacher. My son lives here on Oahu and is a managing editor of a magazine and a pastor of a church in Manoa. I love reading, hiking, and traveling with my husband.

 Mrs. Shari Ito, PSAP

I am part of Waiau Elementary's Counseling Team. My first experience working with students started in 1979 at Pohukaina School which is located in the Kakaako area. I worked with disabled and special needs students. My career journey has been in accounting, medicine and education. My passion is working with people - students, parents, teachers and helping others. I've been here at Waiau since 2001 as Waiau's PSAP (Primary School Adjustment Program) Assistant and Liaison
