Waiau, or “swirling waters”, originally referred to the abundance of rain in our uplands. These rains created many springs which became the sustenance for taro and rice fields. Waiau Elementary School continues to carry out the tradition associated with its name. In the same way that water provides nourishment for growth, we nurture and provide a foundation for our students.
