Principal's Message

Aloha Waiau,

Welcome to our website which is full of information and resources.  Please take some time to explore the different links to learn more about our school. At Waiau Elementary School we believe in engaging students with our rigorous curriculum and have many resources available for our students to access through this website. 

Superintendent Keith Hayashi has stated his vision for public education is to prepare our students to be “globally competitive, locally committed.” We strive to educate the whole child through our language arts, math, social studies, science, music and PE curriculums. Every class also participates in Project Based Learning (PBL) activities which help to build the skills necessary for students to be successful both academically and socially. 

Waiau has both an English and a Hawaiian Language Immersion (HLI) program of study. Students in our HLI program are held to their grade level standards, just as the English language students, but learn the content in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. Our kumu are well versed in ʻŌlelo Hawaʻii and the HLIP state standards. At Waiau we are proud of the unity we have as one school, united in vision and purpose.
