Waiau Elementary School

Mrs. Melissa Bradley » Welcome!

“Every student can learn…just not on the same day or in the same way.”

George Evans

I am so excited to work with you and your child this school year. I know we are going to have so much fun getting to know each other throughout the year. I am looking forward to learning and growing with you.

I was born and raised in Nanakuli. I attended elementary and middle school in Nanakuli, but later graduated from Kamehameha Schools – Kapalama Campus. I went on to earn my Associates in Teaching Degree from Leeward Community College. I later earned by Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Chaminade University in Hawaii.

I worked as a PTT at Pearl City Highlands Elementary School from 2010 thru 2015.  I was a support teacher in grades K through 2nd, completed Rigby Reading Assessments for students in grades K through 4th. In 2012, I became the Hawaiian Studies teacher for grades K thru 6th and truly fell in love with teaching the Hawaiian culture and values.  From January 2017 to May 2017, I was a long term substitute teacher in grade 5 here at Waiau Elementary School.  I joined the Waiau 'Ohana permanently in July of 2017 as a 5th Grade teacher.  Last year as well as this year, I have the opportunity to make a difference in Grade 3.   I feel privileged to have this opportunity to partner with you and the staff here at Waiau to make this year a fun and successful year for your child.

My experiences as a teacher has taught me many valuable lessons. One of the most important lessons I have learned is every student is unique. A cookie cutter lesson plan or management style will not work for ALL students. To ensure my students are given the best opportunity for success in my classroom, I need to get to know them and meet them right where they are at.
