Ms. Kwai Mei Daugherty » Welcome!

Welcome!

Welcome to Third Grade! This year my classroom theme/goals are Reading Graphic Novels and keeping a Science and Social Studies Journal. We have a new Science program this year called STEMScopes. We will also study computer science and learn how to code on Code.org. We will continue to use Wonders Reading and Ready Math. IXL and iReady will be used for extra practice. This year we have Generation Genius lessons available for Science AND Math! I can't wait to try it out with you.

Field trips are back and we will be visiting the Hawai'i Youth Theater twice to see two plays - "The Pa'akai We Bring" in September, and "Peter Pop Pan" in April.

You will see links to our Google Classroom and ClassDojo below. Google Classroom will be used for some assignments, resource documents, and important links. I primarily use ClassDojo for communication. This is my preferred method of communication (rather than in the student planner) and is the quickest way to contact me.

I have a dog named Koalani, and last year a cat adopted me. Her name is Maomao. You will hear lots of stories about both of them! In my free time I like to read, grow plants in the garden, and swim in the ocean. I hope we can study about the plants and animals we see around school this year.

My areas of study are Linguistics, Social Studies, and Place-based Learning. I have taught grades K-4 in elementary and English as a Foreign Language in a private college. I have also been a theater attendant, cashier, sales associate, barista, Clinique Consultant, after school teacher, server, hostess, baker...and I have learned a lot from each journey. That's why I can see how what we learn in 3rd grade is so important for every career you might decide on in the future. I look forward to having you in my classroom this year!
