Waiau Elementary School

Physical Education Program

Aloha Parents and Students,

The goal of our PE program is to help each student develop the skills needed to embrace a healthy active lifestyle, as well as promote discipline, cooperation, and positive social interaction. I will modify/adapt the activities as needed. The physical education program at Waiau Elementary School will provide a safe, rigorous and relevant learning environment that will challenge each child to proficiently meet the four Hawai’i Physical Education Content Standards:

  1. Movement Forms: Use motor skills and movement patterns to perform a variety of physical activities.
  2. Cognitive Concepts: Understand movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
  3. Active Lifestyle:  Participate regularly in physical activity.
  4. Physical Fitness: Know ways to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Your child’s class will have P.E. on the “letter day” as noted on the monthly Waiau lunch menu calendar:

"A and B" = Enrichment Days (Always on a Mon. or Tues., please ask the classroom teacher what program the class will be attending)

“C” =  Grades 5 and 6

“D” =  Grades 1 and 4

“E” =  Grades 2 and 3

“F” = Preschool and Kindergarten

 Important Reminders:

Please wear athletic shoes, shorts and t-shirt to all P.E. classes.
Bring a water bottle (labeled with name) to help hydrate often and resume activities sooner as there is only one water fountain on the    big field/park
