Aloha Parents!

My name is Mr. Brandon Kim and I am the new P.E. teacher at Waiau Elementary School. Prior to joining Waiau, I served as the P.E. teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. I also worked at Kamehameha Schools (Elementary and Explorations), as well as coached many sports as well (K-12). If I had to sum up my teaching philosophy into one word, that word would be - empowerment. If we strive to provide our youth with a variety of opportunities as well as give them the right tools to succeed, I believe that they will not only reach their goals, but they will surpass them as well! I emphasize teaching and learning the right and proper way.  In addition, I also emphasize a learning environment where all members are safe and respected. When teaching PE, I also look forward to teaching students many life lessons such as perseverance, integrity, and respect.

My goal is to help each student develop the skills needed to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle, as well as promote discipline, cooperation, and positive social interaction. I will modify/adapt activity as needed. The physical education program at Waiau Elementary School will provide a safe, wholesome, rigorous and relevant learning environment that will challenge your child to proficiently meet the 4 Hawai’i Physical Education Content Standards:

  1. Movement Forms: Use motor skills and movement patterns to perform a variety of physical activities.
  2. Cognitive Concepts: Understand movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
  3. Active Lifestyle:  Participate regularly in physical activity.
  4. Physical Fitness: Know ways to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Your child’s class will have P.E. on the “letter day” as noted on the monthly Waiau lunch menu:
