Hi! I am Waiau Elementary School's Counselor. I started my teaching career in 1986 as a counselor at Ma'ili Elementary School. I then transferred to Waipahu Elementary School in 1989. After ten years at Waipahu, I happily joined the Waiau Ohana in 1999.

Waiau Elementary believes in education that develops the “whole” child. Our goal is to offer rich learning experiences that go beyond the core academic curriculum. Our many specialized resource teachers make this possible.

As part of Waiau's resource team, I help students get along with others and to be caring and confident learners. As a counselor, I provide a variety of services to the children, parents, teachers, and staff of the school. These services include: Individual Counseling, Small Group Counseling, Class Guidance Lessons, and Teacher / Parent Consultation. I also can be found having "lunch bunch" with students.

Along with the rest of the Waiau staff, I provide the guidance, encouragement and support necessary to ensure every student’s success both academically and personally.

Choose Love Waiau!

Choose Love At Home

Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to ensure that every child has access to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in their classrooms and to help facilitate this teaching within their families, schools, and communities. We do this in honor of Jess and to spread the message he left on his family's kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died- "Nurturing, Healing Love."

Founder, Scarlett Lewis has personally dedicated her life's work to sharing Jesse's message to make a positive impact on our world and by supporting the efforts of increasing the awareness and benefits of SEL by "Choosing Love."

Social and Emotional Learning
Long-term studies have shown that social and emotional learning (SEL) is more important than academic learning to a student's success, academically and in life. All students deserve to receive SEL in their classrooms based on the evidence compiled from decades of research showing the tremendous life-long benefits of SEL mentally, physically, and emotionally for students. In fact, SEL is the most powerful and proactive mental health initiative we have. All evidence points to SEL being a necessary component of our children's education and a powerful solution to the issues we face in our society today.

Something interesting about me is that I come from a family of educators. My grandfather and father were school principals and my mother, sister and sister-in-law are all teachers.
